Mini Cart

Internationally, several new regulations have been introduced regarding emissions and vehicle build quality. As a result, manufacturers around the world have been forced to modify existing models or discontinue production of some models. I’ve seen several examples of cars built by local factories. This is happening not only in India but also abroad. Outside India, many build road-legal vehicles in their own garages. One of these gentlemen was John Dodd from England. In 1977 John Dodd built the world’s most powerful car, the Beast. Here’s a video showing the current state of John Dodd’s Beast.ย

Legendary ‘The Beast’ has the 27,000 cc engine of the Spitfire aircraft

John Dodd’s photo

This video was uploaded to their YouTube channel by The Late Brake Show. In this video, the host talks about the history of this beast. The car design is completely unconventional. It has a strange design with a hood that is nearly 10 feet long. Development of the Beast began in 1966 and Dodd was commissioned to build a custom Rolling gearbox for his chassis. The chassis was equipped with a Rolls-Royce Meteor tank engine. In the end, John bought the same car and completed the project.

Since it uses a rolling chassis, the exterior design is completely made to order. John consulted a workshop that specialized in fibreglass bodywork for cars, especially dragsters. The car received a fibreglass body with a Rolls-Royce Cornish front grille. Rolls-Royce was not very pleased with the move and took John Dodd to court. This made the car very popular in media publications. The bodies shown in the video are not the first. John even brought his car to Sweden to avoid legal action.

The body was built by a company called Fibre Glass Repairs and ‘The Beast’ was fitted with a grille and a Rolls-Royce mascot.

In 1974 the car was severely damaged in a fire. After the incident, John decides to rebuild the car and replace the engine as well. The Rolls-Royce Meteor tank engine was replaced with a Merlin V12 engine originally developed for fighter aircraft. The 27-litre V12 engine occupied most of the space under the hood due to its enormous size. Cooling requires a lot of air, so the hood had multiple vents to prevent overheating. The Beast’s new body design was different from the old version. He had a station wagon-like design now also known as the Shooting Brake.

An engine derived from the Spitfire aircraft on the roads

The redesign of the car replaced the controversial Rolls-Royce grille with a bespoke unit bearing John Dodd’s initials. The interior of the car has also been redesigned, with a classic beige-brown paint finish. The 19-foot-tall car was powered by a Merlin V12 engine, producing 950 horsepower and 1030 Nm of torque. It could reach speeds of up to 322 km/h, a feat unmatched by any other production car of the time. This made the Beast one of the most powerful cars of its time. John Dodd used to drive this car when he wasn’t working on the huge engine.

Recently, three Tata Punch cars were revealed to have caught fire, and another made headlines this time after its owner shared details on social media. It’s the fourth Tata Punch to catch fire, and the owner says the car is only a year old. Shivam Jaula expressed disappointment that no one had contacted them after three days.ย

The customer did not provide exact details of how the car caught fire, but uploaded a video showing the engine compartment being completely destroyed. The fire is believed to have started in the engine room, and several parts were damaged. The video shows people gathering around the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle was apparently driving at the time of the fire but did not provide further details.

After the tweet, the official Tata Motors Twitter handle responded, requesting the owner to share the details of the incident. However, the owner claims that no one has contacted him for at least three days, despite sharing the details.

Tata punch caught fire

It is unclear if the car has already arrived at the service centre and Tata Motors has not provided a diagnostic report on the fire or its cause. In a recent incident involving the Mahindra XUV700, the company detailed that the fire was caused by the installation of an aftermarket accessory. However, Tata Motors has yet to release such information or statements.

3 More Tata cars caught fire in the past

Up to three Tata Punch cars have been hit by fire in the past. The latest incident occurred in Guwahati, Assam, when a punch caught fire in the middle of the road.

Car fires can occur in any make of a vehicle and are a serious safety hazard, so it is important to take great care when handling your vehicle. Most fires are caused by aftermarket installations or cable connections. It is important to note that such modifications may also affect the vehicle’s warranty.

The Tata Punch fire accident may have been accidental, but Tata Motors needs to investigate the matter and find out the root cause. The manufacturer can restore the trust of the purchaser by thoroughly investigating and investigating the cause. Tata is a customer-favourite brand for its build quality, and events like this could make customers reconsider their choices.

Tata Punch wasn’t the only one that caught fire. A video of Tata Nexon and an 11-month-old Tata Harrier catching fire has also surfaced online. In the case of the Tata Nexon, vigilant guards managed to extinguish the fire, but in the case of the Harrier, the car burst into flames in the middle of the road and the owner managed to escape. These accidents show how important it is to investigate the root causes of car fires to prevent such accidents in the future.

Another special measure by the Government of India and the Reserve Bank of India has mandated that 2,000 rupee notes be exchanged or deposited into accounts by 30 September. This sudden announcement, similar to demonetization, has created a commotion in the country, with numerous individuals rushing to banks, businesses, and petrol pumps to exchange these notes. However, many of these companies refuse to accept these banknotes causing problems, leading to an even worse scenario. Recently, a man who went to a petrol station to fill up his scooter was asked to return the fuel given to him after he tried to pay with a 2,000 rupee note. A video capturing the incident has since gone viral.ย

The video, shared on Twitter by Haider Naqvi, shows a man at a pump station draining petrol from his scooter after he refused to accept a 2000 rupee note. Naqvi explained in a tweet: โ€œIn Jalaung, a man offered a 2000 rupee note to a petrol station.

From the video, we observe one employee engaging in a conversation with the person recording the video, while another employee is squatting on the floor, using a plastic pipe to extract petrol from the manโ€™s scooter into a container. The video reveals the vehicle number and the faces of the employees involved in this unethical practice. According to reports, this incident occurred at the Hindustan petrol pump in front of D Mart in the Orai Kotwali area of Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh. It was also reported that the man requested the petrol pump attendants to fill his scooter with Rs 400 worth of petrol, but when he attempted to pay with the Rs 2000 note, they refused to accept it and began removing the filled fuel from his scooter.

Rs. 2000 Note will disappear soon – by the order of RBI

2000 Rupee Note Bundle

For those who don’t know, the RBI recently announced its withdrawal from circulation of the highest denomination notes. The 2000 rupee notes introduced in 2016 will remain legal tender, but citizens are required to deposit or redeem these notes by 30 September 2023. The situation is reminiscent of a de-monetization process, but this time there will be less disruption as paper money will be phased out over a long period of time.

The answer for those wondering why this decision was made is that when the 2000 rupee banknote was introduced in 2016, it was intended to quickly replenish cash in circulation after being phased out in fact. However, the central bank has consistently expressed its desire to reduce the circulation of high denomination notes and has stopped printing 2000 rupee banknotes for the past four years. There is speculation that the Indian government may have implemented this measure ahead of the general election, but no definite statement has been made. Apart from this speculation, neither the Central Bank of India nor the Government of India has disclosed any other specific reasons for this action.

Mahindra has issued a statement regarding the incident.

The XUV700 is India’s largest utility manufacturer Mahindra’s flagship SUV and is currently one of the most popular SUVs in India. The success of this model is due to its attractive equipment and excellent value for money compared to other SUVs. However, despite its popularity and progress, it is not without flaws. Since its launch, the vehicle has suffered from various problems. Recently, his XUV700 owner named Kuldeep Singh recounted a horrifying incident when his 6-month-old Mahindra XUV700 caught fire unexpectedly on a highway in Jaipur.ย

The owner expressed his frustration by tweeting, “Thank you Mahindra for risking my family’s life with a top-quality product (XUV700)” after the car caught fire while driving on Jaipur highway. bottom. It’s not overheating. Smoke entered the car while it was running, and a fire broke out. @anandmahindra @MahindraRise @tech_mahindra”

A video shared by the owner shows that the fire was contained within the engine compartment and did not spread to the interior of the vehicle. Still, the incident was horrific and the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. In the comments section of the Twitter post, many have speculated that modifications made by Short and later car owners may have been to blame. However, the owner said the car is only six months old and has not undergone any modifications.

The video also shows people in the vicinity of the car trying to extinguish the blaze with water, which is not the safest method. I should have used a fire extinguisher instead. For those of you who don’t know what to do when your car fires, here are some key points to keep in mind when extinguishing a car fire.

Keep calm and park your car

Find a safe place to stop, away from cars and other vehicles. Turn off the engine and park your car. If possible, apply the emergency/parking brake to prevent movement.

Evacuate the vehicle

Make sure that all occupants, including yourself, exit the vehicle immediately and keep a safe distance of at least 30 meters from the burning vehicle.

Call the emergency services

To report a fire, call your country’s emergency number (such as 101 in India). Provide accurate information about places and conditions.

Warn others

Use hazard lights, flares, or warning triangles to warn other drivers of your car’s fire and keep a safe distance.

Do not open the hood

Opening the hood will supply more oxygen to the fire, making the situation even worse. It is important to keep the hood closed to restrict oxygen flow.

Use a fire extinguisher

If you have a fire extinguisher nearby and can safely extinguish it, point it at the source of the fire, or fire, and shake it left and right until the fire is extinguished. However, only attempt this if you are properly trained and confident in using a fire extinguisher. Safety should always come first.

Do not use water

Never use water to extinguish a car fire. Be especially careful when flammable liquids and electrical components are involved. Water splash can spread the fire or cause an explosion.

Wait for the professional help

After taking initial firefighting measures, it is best to wait for professional firefighters to arrive. They are equipped and trained to safely handle vehicle fires.

Remember that your safety and that of others is of utmost importance. If the fire gets out of control, don’t risk it. Move to a safe place and let the professionals handle the situation.

The automobile industry is changing around the world. Governments are implementing stricter emission norms forcing manufacturers to discontinue many models. Other than the new emission norms, we are also seeing a rise in the number of electric cars in the market. The future of mobility at this rate would definitely be EVs and we have spoken about the same in our previous articles. If you have a soft corner for classic cars, then here we have a set of vehicles that one can buy at a very cheap price. These cars will be the classic cars of the future and maybe collector cars in the future.ย

Maruti 800

This little family hatchback needs no introduction. This car was produced from 1983 to 2014. This tiny hatchback has made owning a car a dream come true for many middle-class Indian families. Most of these have been altered or rusted, making it difficult to find well-preserved specimens. This popular hatchback is still available on the used car market, and since it’s a Maruti, maintenance isn’t too difficult. Ideally, I would like to draw your attention to the Type 1 Multi 800 with square headlights, which are very rare on our roads.

Maruti Omni

Another Maruti car will soon be considered a future classic. I’m sure many of you reading this article have memories of this van. This minibus was probably a school bus for many of you reading this article. This was Marti’s second model, launched in 1984. This van was produced until 2020. Production has been discontinued due to BS6 emission regulations. Some examples of Maruti Omni vans are still available on the used car market today. These vans are available at a very affordable price.

Tata Nano

This was a hatchback launched to revolutionize the domestic four-wheeler market. However, it was poorly marketed and cheaply priced, making it a very suitable car for city use. It didn’t go very well. The Tata Nano is the perfect city car and is what many people are looking for on the used car market right now. Previous versions of Nano were poorly maintained and had missing features. The later models came with power windows, power steering and even an AMT gearbox for convenience.

Hindustan Motors Ambassador

This car is one of those cars we all know will be a collector’s car in the future. This car played a pivotal role in Indian automotive history. This limousine was used by politicians and diplomats and was presented as a status symbol in society. Many people liked this sedan for its rear-seat comfort. Even today, there are many examples of well-preserved and improved embassies in different parts of the country. I don’t know if it’s available at a cheap price.

Honda City type 2

The last car on the list is one that is beloved by many Indian car enthusiasts. Honda City Type 2, specifically his 1.5-litre VTEC petrol engine. This sedan remains he one of the most reliable sedans on the market today. It featured a different wheelset and even had a VTEC badge on the trunk. This is a car with a lot of mod potential, and we’ve seen a few similar examples in the past. Finding a well-maintained stock car can be difficult. Even if you do find one, I’m not sure the owner will give it away for cheap.

Since its launch in January 2023, Thar RWD has enjoyed great success in India. The Mahindra Thar RWD is more affordable, making it a top choice for buyers who want the rugged appeal of a Thar without the luxury of a four-wheel drive. The popularity of thar RWD is evidenced by the current wait time of up to 17 months.

For the diesel version of the Mahindrathal RWD, which has a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox, the waiting period is 17 months. In contrast, the petrol version of the Thar RWD has a much shorter wait time of just one month. This indicates that the diesel version is in high demand, despite the petrol version being more powerful but less efficient.ย

Available in two variants, the Thar RWD Diesel features a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine as opposed to the larger and more powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine of the Thar 4WD diesel. The Thar 4WD’s 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 130 horsepower, while the Taal RWD’s smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine produces a maximum output of 118 horsepower. Surprisingly, both diesel engines have the same maximum torque of 300Nm.

Thar 4X2 launched to reach more customers

Unlike the Thar 4WD Diesel, which offers both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission, the Thar RWD Diesel is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. Meanwhile, the Thar RWD petrol engine shares a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder medallion turbocharged petrol engine with the Thar 4WD petrol engine, delivering the same power and torque of 150 hp and 300 Nm respectively. The Thar 4WD Petrol is only available with a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the Thar 4WD Petrol is available with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.

Of course, the Mahindra Thar RWD lacks some of the off-road capabilities of the Thar 4WD with its all-wheel-drive system and its manually operated 4ร—4 transfer case. However, the Thar RWD is equipped with a manual limited-slip differential, which, while not as smooth as the 4WD version, still has good traction over rough terrain. The 4WD version of the Thar will be offered in both hardtop and convertible body styles, while the RWD version will be limited to the hardtop body version.

Maruti Suzuki Jimny is launching soon

Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the new Jimny in the Indian market. The new all-terrain vehicle is set to go on sale next month and should take most of the sales away from Thar. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will likely have a long wait, but will likely remain significantly cheaper than the Thar.

In recent years, India has emerged as an important market for automakers, driving their growth and expansion plans. The country is on the verge of overtaking major countries such as the United States and China as it is gaining more attention from automakers. Maruti Suzuki India Limited Chairman RC Bhargava recently confirmed this trend and predicted that within the next five years, India would overtake the United States and China to become a major automotive market.ย

Maruti Suzuki Chairman RC Bhargava

Bhargava said the U.S. and China are now ahead of India because of their larger economies. However, when it comes to the automotive industry, India is experiencing impressive growth. The company is already the market leader in the two-wheeler sector, and vehicle sales continue to grow. India has now overtaken Japan to take third place.

Read Also: TESLA INC LAUNCHING IN INDIA โ€“ RUMOURS OR TRUE?

Bhargava acknowledged that overtaking China will be even more difficult because the Chinese market, where car sales are growing, is much larger. For example, in 2022 in China, he will have 26.86 million cars sold, while in India he will have 20.75 million sold across all categories. He suggested that India could move forward by significantly expanding the capacity of its local manufacturing bases in the country.

Maruti Suzuki, chaired by RC Bhargava, exported 260,000 units in 2022/23. Bhargava said the figure could have been higher had it not been for production problems such as semiconductor shortages. However, once these challenges subside, Maruti Suzuki positions India as a major vehicle exporter, aiming to triple its exports from the previous year.

To boost exports, Maruti Suzuki has already announced an investment of up to INR 18 crore in a manufacturing facility to be built in Sonipat, Haryana in 2022. Over the next seven years, the new facility is expected to become the company’s largest production facility.

In addition to Maruti Suzuki, other automakers are also investing heavily to expand production and increase exports to other countries. Hyundai, for example, has announced an investment of INR 20,000 for the same purpose, and MG plans to invest INR 5 billion over the next five to seven years. In addition to their focus on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, automakers are gradually turning their attention to electric vehicles (EVs) as they aim to expand production and exports in the coming years. Even Roads Minister Nitin Gadkari has suggested that India could become a major auto market within the next five years by focusing on electric and flex-fuel vehicles.

Relations between India and Tesla, the world’s largest electric car maker, have deteriorated somewhat in recent years. The company considered bringing its own vehicles into the country and requested the government to reduce import tariffs. However, the Indian government has always refused this request. After lobbying talks stalled for some time, several executives from the American electric car maker are now reportedly visiting India to meet with Indian government officials. The purpose of the conference is to find ways for the company to deepen its supply chain in India and diversify out of China.ย

So far, the topics of discussion at this meeting between senior Tesla executives and officials from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office have not been made public as the meeting is closed to the public in nature. However, a source familiar with the situation said the company would like to discuss opportunities to source local products for use in building luxury electric vehicles such as the Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y.

Attendees are expected to include executives and managers from Tesla’s supply chain, manufacturing and business development, based in Austin, Texas. Executives said Tesla plans to reiterate its call for India to lower import tariffs on its cars, according to people familiar with the matter.

For those who don’t know, as previously reported on Cartoq, Tesla has been pressuring the Indian government to lower high EV import tariffs since 2019. But the Indian government decided not to do so. India currently imposes an import duty of 60% on EVs under $40,000. However, EVs priced above $40,000 will be subject to a 100% import duty. The same problem applies to internal combustion engine vehicles brought into the country. Alongside Tesla, Audi was also alleged to have lobbied the Indian government to lower its high tariffs.

The American electric car maker has even appointed a dedicated official to lead Tesla’s lobbying efforts in India. But after the government reluctantly ignored Tesla’s request, the company asked its Indian team to work on expanding into the larger markets of the Middle East and Asia Pacific (APAC). As a result, Manuj Khurana, the head of policy and business development at Tesla in India, resigned.

For more than a year, Mr Khurana has been lobbying India to reduce import tariffs on electric cars from 100% to 40%. Tesla argued that this would allow it to test the market with imports from manufacturing hubs such as China before investing in factories. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has demanded that Tesla first tackle car production in India before making any concessions. As a result, Tesla put its ambitions to sell cars in India on hold, redeployed its domestic workforce and abandoned its search for showroom space after negotiations stalled.

The country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, is preparing to launch its most expensive model yet in the coming months. We are talking about the premium MPV Maruti Suzuki Engage. This upcoming MPV is another of his badged models co-developed with fellow Japanese auto giant Toyota Kirloskar Motors. The Engage MPV is based on the Toyota Innova Hycross, with minor external adjustments to distinguish it from the Innova Hycross. A video recently surfaced online showing what this newest Maruti Suzuki MPV looks like.ย

A video rendering of this upcoming MPV has been shared by Barawala Designs on their YouTube channel. The video begins with the front of the Engage MPV. In the video, we can see that the front grille of the Toyota Innova Hicross has been replaced with that of Maruti Suzuki’s current flagship, the Grand Vitara. Additionally, the Toyota badging has been replaced with a Suzuki badging and a new signature Maruti Suzuki chrome stripe has been added to the grille. Other than that, the front end is essentially identical to that of the previous Toyota Innova Highcross.

In terms of the side profile of the rendered car, not much has changed, the only big difference you can notice is the different sets of alloy wheels. The redesigned MPV’s alloy wheels are the same as those currently offered on the Grand Vitara. Nothing has changed on the Engage rendering backend except for adding the chrome stripes and the Suzuki logo. Aside from exterior changes, there are no major changes inside this upcoming MPV, keeping all the amenities and features of the Toyota Innova Highcross mostly intact.

Maruti Suzuki Engage Expected Front Look

In terms of features, we can expect the Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki to offer a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a digital driver’s display, dual-zone temperature control, and ventilated front seats in the Maruti premium MPV. Additionally, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, a 360-degree camera, and connected car technology are likely to be included. Meanwhile, on the safety front, the car could come equipped with front and rear parking sensors, up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control (VSC), a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and ADAS features, including lane-keeping and departure aid, adaptive cruise control, and auto-emergency braking.

As for the powertrain side of things, the premium MPV Engage will most likely be available from Maruti Suzuki with the same drivetrain choices as the Innova Hycross. This suggests that the 2.0-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid engine will be the two powerplant options for this MPV. The naturally aspirated petrol engine delivers 173 hp and 209 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the Innova Hycross’s 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain reaches a maximum output of 184 horsepower and a full fuel consumption of 23.24 km/h.
