Kia’s newest concept car is built on the ‘Opposites United design philosophy, and it combines SUV features with a fastback body shape.

Kia marked EV Day 2023 by revealing two all-new EV concepts as it accelerates its electrification drive. The first was the new EV3 concept, which previewed a future SUV to compete with the likes of the MG ZS EV, while the second was an all-new sedan, the EV4. The EV4 concept previews the brand’s first dedicated born-electric car, with the company’s EV lineup now limited to SUVs.

The EV4 Concept, which is expected to go into production by 2025, borrows Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy from its born-electric series for usage in a sedan body type. The result is a design that is sure to divide opinion, combining the upright design characteristics of SUVs with the more three-box form of a typical sedan.

To begin, the Concept’s front fascia lacks drama, with smooth surfaces and gentle contours. The bonnet is separated from the front bumper by a narrow black trim piece, and the huge central air dam does not appear to be functioning. A closer look reveals vertically stacked headlights on either corner of the fascia, as well as paneling around the lower edge of the bumper.

The EV4 has the silhouette of a fastback, with a sharply slanted rear pillar that flows all the way to the integrated boot-lid spoiler. There’s some paneling over the substantial wheel arches, as well as around the lower doors. The curved roofline and upswept window line enhance the four-door coupe appearance, while the black finished trim on the C pillar enhances the floating roof image.

The broad sloping curving rear windscreen, vertically oriented tail lights, and conspicuous usage of cladding on the lower bumper characterize the rear.

The cockpit has a minimalist design approach, with twin displays atop the dashboard giving all pertinent vehicle and infotainment information to the driver. Other distinctive stylistic elements include pin-style air vents that take up little space and air-conditioning controls that can be stowed when not in use. The cabin also makes considerable use of materials on the door and dashboard, with the upper and power cabins divided by a distinctive ornamental element.

Kia did not give any specifics about the EV4 concept’s engine, although it is believed to be based on the company’s existing e-GMP platform.

Kawasaki has revealed the Ninja 7 Hybrid for the European market, although full specs have yet to be released. At its core is a 451cc parallel-twin engine with an electric motor, generating a combined power output of 58bhp.

Kawasaki has introduced the Ninja 7, which it claims is the world’s first mass-produced hybrid motorbike, to the European market. The ‘Hybrid Electric Vehicle’ is powered by a 451cc parallel-twin water-cooled 4-stroke engine and a 9kW electric motor with a 48V lithium-ion battery. According to the Japanese manufacturer, the combined power output is around 58bhp, which can be increased to 69bhp utilizing an e-boost mode (active for 15 seconds at a time). The petrol mill alone generates around 46bhp. In addition, the Ninja 7 Hybrid foregoes the typical clutch-gear shifter in favor of paddle shifters on the left side, similar to Honda’s DCT motorcycles. DCT (dual-clutch gearbox) technology was first featured in the Honda lineup on the VFR1200F in 2010.

Other Features of the Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid

The Ninja 7 also has an idle stop function to save fuel, a forward and reverse ‘walk mode’ for low-speed maneuvers and parking, an Automatic Launch Position Finder that allows the rider to select the first gear with the push of a button, and three riding modes – EV, Eco Hybrid, and Sport Hybrid. A full-color TFT screen with Bluetooth connection for notifications and navigation alerts has been borrowed from the Ninja e-1.

Chassis and Hardware for the Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid

The parallel-twin engine of the Ninja 7 Hybrid is snuggled in a steel trellis frame, with the 48V battery pack positioned towards the center to help control the vehicle’s weight. The Ninja 7’s suspension comprises a telescopic fork up front and a mono-shock up back. The hybrid motorbike features the same two front discs with Nissin calipers as the Ninja 400 and Ninja 650. The bike is equipped with 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels wrapped on tubeless Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tires.

Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid: Design

The motorbike inherits a dual-pod headlamp and its surrounding body from the 2024 Ninja ZX-6R, while the fairing-mounted turn indicators are similar to those seen on the Ninja 400. The undercowl is matte lime green, while the body panels are silver/black.

According to the manufacturer, the Ninja 7 Hybrid is a mid-size motorcycle with performance equivalent to a 650-700cc bike with rapid acceleration to rival that of a 1,000cc-class supersport model from a standing start. It does, however, have the same fuel efficiency as a 250cc motorcycle. As of now, Kawasaki has released a few specifics about the Ninja 7 Hybrid.

Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid: Pricing and Release Date

The hybrid vehicle is set to be on sale in the United Kingdom next year, with prices to be announced in the coming weeks. The deliveries are expected to begin in April 2024. However, it remains to be seen if this vehicle will be available in the Indian market or if it will stay an international model for us.

In India, fuel economy ratings are regarded as a significant factor to consider when purchasing a new motorcycle. Given that the vast majority of Indians own two-wheelers, here are the top 5 fuel-efficient motorbikes in the country to assist you in getting through the current fuel price increase.

When it comes to buying a motorcycle in India, fuel economy has always been a crucial factor. When it comes to sales, the best-selling vehicles are also among the most fuel-efficient in the country. They are significantly more inexpensive, small, and lack any frills or extraneous amenities due to their aim of giving the highest mileage per liter of petrol. Because of their great fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs, commuter bikes between 100cc and 110cc are among the most popular motorcycles marketed in India. There are several alternatives available from two-wheeler manufacturers like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj, TVS, and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India for buyers worried about mileage. Nowadays, when fuel prices are rising like the temperature in the desert, the value of these motorcycles grows even more. So, here is a list of the top 5 most affordable, fuel-efficient bikes in India.

Bajaj Platina 100

In India, Bajaj Auto introduced the Platina 100 as an entry-level commuter bike. The BS6-compliant variant of the motorbike is still manufactured today. The bike’s current iteration is powered by a 97.2cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder, OHC engine that produces 7.91bhp and 8.05Nm of peak torque. The motorbike is powered by a 123.9cc engine with a maximum power output of 10.59bhp and torque output of 11Nm. When combined with a 5-speed gearbox, the engine achieves a fuel economy of 65km/l. The bike costs Rs 78,687 for the Drum Brake version and Rs 82,687 for the Disc Brake version. Both prices are ex-showroom in Delhi.

TVS Radeon

The brand-new Radeon, upgraded with a variety of new capabilities, was introduced by TVS last year. These consist of an LCD instrument cluster with a clock, service indicator, low battery indicator, peak speed, and average speed displays. The motorbike also has TVS Intelligo technology, which switches the system off during prolonged idling and restarts it with a simple twist of the throttle. During the third quarter of 2023, BYD sold 4,31,603 pure electric cars globally, a substantial 23 percent increase over the same period the previous year.

In an unexpected turn of events, Chinese automaker BYD, backed by famous investor Warren Buffet, is getting closer to challenging Tesla’s dominance in the worldwide electric vehicle (EV) market. According to Bloomberg, BYD sold 4,31,603 pure electric cars globally during the third quarter of 2023, a remarkable 23 percent increase over the same period last year. This record puts BYD just 3,456 sales behind Tesla, which delivered 4,35,059 vehicles over the same period.

This data implies that if BYD maintains its progress into the fourth quarter, it might overtake Tesla, signaling a significant shift in the EV production scene. This would be the first time Tesla has ceded its status as the leading EV maker since dethroning Nissan in 2019. However, there are several elements to consider that might influence this race, such as potential overnight price cuts in the US and Tesla’s newly released Model 3 makeover, which could damage sales and perhaps prevent BYD from taking the lead in the following quarter.

It is worth noting that Tesla presently sells only four models, with the more economical Model 3 sedan and Model Y crossover accounting for nearly 96.3 percent of all deliveries. BYD, on the other hand, has a diverse variety of EVs, ranging from the Dolphin hatchback to numerous crossovers and sedans. BYD also produces plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). BYD shipped 3,90,491 PHEVs globally in the third quarter, increasing its total EV and PHEV sales to 8,22,094 vehicles.

Whether or not BYD manages to overtake Tesla in the near future, the company has unquestionably cemented its place as China’s premier automobile brand. BYD surpassed Volkswagen in first-quarter sales earlier this year, a position the latter had held since at least 2008. Although the majority of BYD’s sales are still in China, the business is growing in Europe, Australia, and other worldwide markets. Notably, the United States is still a vital market in which BYD has yet to establish a big footprint.

According to a report by the Economic Times, the electric car manufacturer VinFast Auto, which is located in Vietnam and is thought of as Tesla’s competition, intends to establish a production facility in India. Last month, VinFast Auto became the third-most valuable automaker in the world.

According to the report, the Vietnamese EV manufacturer may establish a facility in either Gujarat or Tamil Nadu.

The discussions are still in the early stages, but VinFast Auto is eager to expand into India, according to the report, which cited sources. However, it is unclear whether VinFast intends to export or if the new production operation would just service the Indian market.

If VinFast Auto follows through on its investment plans, it will be the first Vietnamese carmaker to establish a presence in India.

Toyota Motor wants to establish a third vehicle manufacturing facility in India, expanding manufacturing capacity in the country for the first time in over a decade as its alliance with Suzuki Motor raises domestic sales, according to two sources.

According to an individual with firsthand knowledge of the plans, the world’s largest auto manufacturer wants the facility to start with a capacity of 80,000-120,000 vehicles per year, which might increase to about 200,000 over time.

The projected starting capacity of the plant will increase Toyota’s existing manufacturing capacity in India by up to 30% from 400,000 units currently.

Toyota has also initiated the development of a new sport utility vehicle (SUV) for the Indian market, which would be delivered in early 2026 and serve as an anchor product for the new plant, according to the person and a third source briefed on the company’s intentions.

The sources did not want to be named since the company has not publicized its growth intentions.

Toyota’s India unit refused to comment.

Toyota’s India sales have increased as a result of a global relationship with Suzuki in which the two Japanese automakers take cars manufactured by their partner, alter them, and sell them under their own names to round out their product lineup.

40% of Toyota’s sales in India are now made up of vehicles that were once part of Maruti Suzuki’s lineup, such as the Glanza hatchback and Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV.

Maruti Suzuki uses almost two-thirds of Toyota’s present manufacturing capacity for producing vehicles for both auto companies as part of their cooperation.

Toyota, best known in India for its Fortuner SUV and Camry hybrid, told Reuters earlier this month that it expected record domestic sales in 2023.

According to two insiders, the Japanese automaker is now aiming for a manufacturing capacity of 500,000 vehicles per year by the end of the decade, including the car types it will deliver to Suzuki.

India’s expansion

Toyota’s expansion into India, the world’s third-largest vehicle market, comes at a time when it is experiencing slower growth in countries such as Europe and North America, as well as competition from Chinese competitors in Southeast Asia.

It now operates two automobile facilities in Bidadi, a town in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, with a third planned for the same location. In May, it added a third shift to the two factories, increasing their total yearly capacity by 30% to more than 400,000 cars.

Toyota’s next C-segment SUV, codenamed 340D, will cover a gap between its mid-sized Urban Cruiser Hyryder and larger multi-purpose vehicle Innova Hycross, according to two sources.

They stated that they are working with vendors to create 60,000 units per year when it opens in early 2026.

They said that Toyota is considering launching a “mini” Land Cruiser in India but emphasized that the automaker is still considering its options and has not made a final decision. They claimed that if Toyota did decide to move through with the vehicle, parts would be imported for assembly in India.
