The manufacturer is likely to launch only one model at first, with intentions to offer the remainder of its worldwide lineup in the future.

Lotus Cars, a well-known British sports car manufacturer, will formally enter the Indian market on November 9, 2023. The business, which is now controlled by Chinese manufacturer Geely, is slated to join the Indian market with a single model at first, with intentions to introduce the remainder of the lineup later. Exclusive Motors, located in New Delhi, will distribute Lotus vehicles across the country.

However, no details on which model will be the brand’s first offering in India have been announced. The company’s global lineup now consists of four models: the Emira, Eletre, Evija, and Emeya. The Emira is the company’s final internal combustion model, while the Evija is the brand’s current flagship electric supercar. Meanwhile, the Eletre is the brand’s first electric SUV, while the Emeya GT vehicle is not projected to be available until 2025.

Lotus Emira

According to rumors, the company would likely release the Emira or Eletre to the Indian market initially, with the other vehicles following suit later. The Emira’s combustion engine variant would eliminate the need for any new charging infrastructure costs and might appeal to purchasers looking for a mid-engine sports vehicle, but the Eletre would capitalize on the country’s growing desire for electric SUVs.

Lotus Eletre

The Emira is available with either an AMG-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 360 bhp and 430 Nm of torque or a bigger 3.5-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 400 horsepower and 420 Nm of torque. The Eletre SUV, on the other hand, features a 905 horsepower dual-motor all-wheel drive electric engine with a 0-100 kmph sprint time of less than three seconds and a range of up to 600 km (WLTP).

Lotus Evija

The Evija is Lotus’ current worldwide flagship performance vehicle, and it may make its way to India at some point in the future.

Lotus plans to import its vehicles into India through the CBU channel, with pricing projected to be close to Rs 2 crore.

According to a Mozilla investigation, major automakers including Nissan gather and exchange personal information. In the analysis, automotive brands from the US, Germany, Japan, France, and South Korea were discovered to have privacy and security issues.

The Mozilla Foundation report claims that 25 major car manufacturers, including Nissan, are gathering and exchanging sensitive personal data, such as sexual activity and health information. The study uncovered privacy and security issues across car brands from the U.S., Germany, Japan, France, and South Korea.

In their evaluation, Mozilla tested 25 major car manufacturers and found that none of them met privacy standards. The organization concluded that cars have the lowest level of privacy among all the product categories they assessed.

During their assessment, researchers thoroughly examined the privacy and security issues in car brands from the United States, Germany, Japan, France, and South Korea. They dedicated approximately 600 hours to reviewing privacy policies, downloading apps, and communicating with the brands, following their ‘Privacy Not Included (PNI) buyer’s guide.’

Jen Caltrider, PNI Program Director at Mozilla, expressed concerns about the privacy issues in modern cars, stating that they collect significant amounts of personal information. The report highlights Nissan as the most problematic, with their privacy policy acknowledging the collection of sensitive data, such as details regarding sexual activity, health diagnoses, and genetic information.

According to the Mozilla blog post, car manufacturers like Nissan claim that they can share and sell consumers’ personal information, including preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, and more, to data brokers, law enforcement, and other third parties.

The Mozilla report highlights that Renault has fewer privacy issues compared to other car manufacturers. Additionally, Volkswagen is mentioned for collecting demographic data (age and gender) and driving behavior’s data (seatbelt usage and braking patterns) for targeted marketing purposes.
