These are wholesale (factory dispatch) figures released on 1 October 2026. Bajaj's company total of 5,38,443 units also includes 86,949 commercial vehicles (three-wheelers and others), so the table below uses its two-wheeler-only split; TVS is shown the same way, without its 26,835 three-wheelers. Yamaha had not published September numbers by the evening of 1 October.

Hero MotoCorp: back on top

After TVS led in August, Hero reclaimed the top spot with 7,66,348 units, up from 6,87,220. Domestic ICE dispatches were 7,10,436, Vida electric added 28,798 and exports were 27,330. Hero said ICE scooters grew 60% and its Vahan retail registrations rose about 31%, as it stocked dealers for the festive season.

Honda: the fastest growth among the big three

HMSI sold 7,06,266 units, up 24% from 5,68,164. Domestic sales rose 26% to 6,36,768 and exports grew to 69,498 from 62,471. That keeps Honda a clear No.2 in total volume, ahead of TVS.

TVS Motor: EVs more than double

TVS sold 6,72,790 vehicles in all (+24%), including 6,45,955 two-wheelers (+23%) and 26,835 three-wheelers. Domestic two-wheelers rose 17% to 4,82,073, and electric two-wheelers jumped 110% to 65,799 units. For Q2 FY27 (July to September), TVS two-wheeler sales were about 18 lakh units, up 27%, as reported by Autocar Pro.

Suzuki: exports lead the way

Suzuki Motorcycle India sold 1,33,688 units (+8%). Domestic sales rose 3% to 1,08,806, while exports jumped 41% to 24,882, so Suzuki finished just behind Royal Enfield.

Bajaj Auto: exports up 34%, home market down 12%

Bajaj shipped 2,11,723 two-wheelers overseas, up 34% from 1,57,665, which means exports made up nearly half of its two-wheeler volume. At home it sold 2,39,771 units against 2,73,188 a year ago. Across all vehicles, Bajaj's 5,38,443 units missed the 5,85,000 that Jefferies had expected, and Business Standard reported the stock fell about 6% on 1 October. For April to September 2026 (H1 FY27), Bajaj's two-wheeler sales still rose 24% to 25,06,513 units, driven by a 47% jump in exports.

Royal Enfield: a record September

Royal Enfield sold 1,21,326 motorcycles in India (+7%) and exported 12,632 (+17%). Autocar Pro notes the Himalayan 440 is fully booked for six months. For H1 FY27, RE stands at 7,09,096 units, up 20%, with domestic sales up 23% and exports down 5%. Big singles like these get ridden on long highway trips, where a bright NightHawk 40W H4 LED headlight bulb makes night riding noticeably easier for many older halogen-lit bikes.

Who is No.1, and what is still missing

In August 2026, TVS overtook Hero and Honda to top the charts with 5,91,437 units, as Autocar India reported (see our August 2026 two-wheeler sales report). In September the order flipped back: Hero first, Honda second, TVS third on two-wheelers. Yamaha had not released September numbers by the evening of 1 October. Model-wise September data usually arrives around mid-October and will follow in a separate post.

Electric two-wheelers: September 2026 on Vahan

Electric scooters and bikes had their biggest month yet. Entrackr's analysis of Vahan data shows about 2.07 lakh registrations, up 12% over August. Autopunditz puts the electric share at about 11.5% of all two-wheeler registrations in September, and total 2026 e2W registrations past 15.6 lakh in nine months, up 62%.

TVS led with a 26.3% share, Bajaj followed at 23.5% and Ather at 14.7%. Hero Vida grew 27% month on month, the fastest among the big four, while Ola slipped 3.5% to 13,449 units and a 6.5% share. Scooter owners parking outdoors through the post-monsoon weeks will find a Hydra waterproof bike cover keeps the seat, display and switchgear dry.

Q2 FY27 and festive context

The first half of FY27 was strong across the board: Bajaj two-wheelers up 24%, Royal Enfield up 20% and TVS two-wheelers up 27% in Q2 alone. The weak spot is Bajaj's domestic market, where volumes fell even as exports boomed. Nifty Auto dropped about 3% on 1 October, with Hero shares down around 4% and TVS and Eicher about 3%, per Business Standard, before most two-wheeler makers had reported. Festive retail (Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali) lands largely in October, so September dispatches partly reflect dealer stocking.

★ Autofy verdict
September 2026 was a strong festive build-up for most brands. Hero is back on top, Honda grew fastest among the big three, and TVS more than doubled its EV volumes. Bajaj is the outlier, with domestic sales down 12% while exports carried it. Remember these are dispatches to dealers; the real test is October retail. If you are buying now, festive offers are live, but compare on-road prices and waiting periods before you book.
