- TVS topped total two-wheeler dispatches in August 2026 with 5,91,437 units (domestic plus exports, +20.5% YoY).
- Honda (5,79,162) and Hero (5,68,398) followed; Hero led domestic dispatches with 5,42,305 units.

Which two-wheeler brand sold the most in August 2026?
It depends on how you count. On total wholesale (factory dispatches to dealers, including exports), TVS was number one with 5,91,437 units, up about 20.5% year on year. Honda came second with 5,79,162 units, and Hero third with 5,68,398 units.
On domestic wholesale only, Hero led with 5,42,305 units (this includes 25,558 Vida electric scooters), ahead of Honda at 5,17,329 and TVS at 4,33,796. TVS got to the top overall because of strong exports (1,57,641 units) and a big jump in electric scooter volumes.
| Brand | Domestic Aug 26 | Exports Aug 26 | Total Aug 26 | Total Aug 25 | Total YoY |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TVS Motor | 4,33,796 | 1,57,641 | 5,91,437 | 4,91,096 | +20.5% |
| Honda (HMSI) | 5,17,329 | 61,833 | 5,79,162 | 5,34,882 | +8.3% |
| Hero MotoCorp | 5,42,305 | 26,093 | 5,68,398 | 5,53,824 | +2.6% |
| Bajaj Auto | 2,01,898 | 2,41,850 | 4,43,748 | 3,41,770 | +29.8% |
| Royal Enfield | 1,14,204 | 12,275 | 1,26,479 | 1,14,021 | +10.9% |
| Suzuki | 1,03,118 | 17,493 | 1,20,611 | n/a | +6% |
What was each brand's market share?
Among these six makers (24.30 lakh units combined), TVS held roughly 24.3% of total dispatches, Honda 23.8%, Hero 23.4%, Bajaj 18.3%, Royal Enfield 5.2% and Suzuki 5.0%. This is a share of the top-six total, not of the full industry, because SIAM's official August industry numbers were not part of our source set.
Bajaj is the export story of the month: 2,41,850 units went overseas, up about 53%, which is more than it sold at home. Hero's exports fell about 25%, and Suzuki's fell 22%.
A busy festive run-up also means more new riders on the road. If you ride after dark on unlit highways, a brighter headlamp like the NightHawk 40W LED headlight is one of the most useful upgrades you can make to a commuter bike.
What were the top 10 best-selling two-wheelers in August 2026?
Hero Splendor stayed India's best-selling two-wheeler by a wide margin with 3,53,842 units, followed by the Honda Activa at 2,55,815. The list below combines the model-wise motorcycle and scooter data compiled by Autopunditz from OEM domestic dispatches.
| Rank | Model | Aug 2026 | Aug 2025 | YoY |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Hero Splendor | 3,53,842 | 3,11,698 | +14% |
| 2 | Honda Activa | 2,55,815 | 2,44,271 | +5% |
| 3 | Honda Shine | 1,80,626 | 1,63,963 | +10% |
| 4 | TVS Jupiter | 1,47,450 | 1,42,411 | +4% |
| 5 | Bajaj Pulsar | 97,839 | 1,09,382 | -11% |
| 6 | Hero HF Deluxe | 69,794 | 89,762 | -22% |
| 7 | Suzuki Access | 69,558 | 60,807 | +14% |
| 8 | TVS Apache | 55,123 | 45,038 | +22% |
| 9 | Bajaj Chetak | 52,248 | 14,014 | +273% |
| 10 | Royal Enfield Classic 350 | 43,428 | 36,025 | +21% |
Two things stand out. The Bajaj Chetak is now a genuine top 10 two-wheeler, not just a top EV, after nearly quadrupling its volume. And the Pulsar, HF Deluxe and Platina (just outside the list at 26,997 units) all slipped, showing that entry-level motorcycle demand is uneven even in a growing market.
Scooter owners parking outdoors during the last of the monsoon will want a proper waterproof bike cover, while Splendor and Shine riders who leave a helmet on the bike can use a 4-digit helmet lock instead of carrying it around.
How did electric two-wheelers sell in August 2026?
Electric two-wheeler retail sales (Vahan) came in at 1,82,936 units, up 67% year on year but 11% lower than July's record. EVs made up about 10.7% of all two-wheeler registrations. TVS led, Bajaj was a strong second, and Ola was the only top 10 brand to decline.
| EV brand | Aug 2026 retail | Share | YoY |
|---|---|---|---|
| TVS Motor (iQube, Orbiter) | 48,873 | 27% | +91% |
| Bajaj Auto (Chetak) | 41,019 | 22% | +235% |
| Ather Energy | 28,708 | 16% | +49% |
| Hero Vida | 18,978 | 10% | +38% |
| Ola Electric | 13,849 | 8% | -29% |
| Greaves (Ampere) | 8,612 | 5% | +89% |
| River | 5,134 | 3% | +170% |
| BGauss | 4,844 | 3% | +180% |
On a wholesale basis, TVS said its EV dispatches grew 137% to 59,453 units in August. Across January to August 2026, TVS, Bajaj, Ather and Vida together crossed 10 lakh e2W retail sales, and the whole segment reached about 13.6 lakh units, already more than all of 2025.
Retail (Vahan/FADA) vs wholesale: why the numbers differ
Wholesale, also called dispatches, is what a manufacturer ships to its dealers. Retail is what actually gets registered on Vahan, which FADA reports each month. In August 2026 retail registrations were 17,14,610 units, up 19.7% year on year but down 5.7% from July.
On the retail table Honda led with 4,47,342 registrations (26.1% share), ahead of Hero at 4,13,996 (24.2%) and TVS at 3,53,746 (20.6%). Wholesale numbers ran well ahead of retail as brands stocked dealers for Navratri and Diwali, so a wholesale win does not always mean more buyers that month.
If you are buying a new scooter this festive season, riding gloves and a cable lock for parking are cheap add-ons worth budgeting for.
