Renault Duster Hybrid Launch on October 17: E-Tech 160 Specs, Expected Price and Rivals
- The Renault Duster Hybrid launches in India on 17 October 2026.
- It uses the E-Tech 160 strong hybrid: 1.8 litre petrol, two electric motors, 1.4kWh battery, 160hp and 172Nm.
- Price is expected, not officially confirmed; reports suggest about Rs 2 lakh over turbo petrol Dusters (Rs 10.49 to 18.69 lakh).
- Rivals are the Maruti Grand Vitara, Victoris and Toyota Hyryder hybrids, which claim about 28 kmpl but make only about 115hp.
The Renault Duster Hybrid finally gets a price on 17 October 2026. It is the third powertrain for the new Duster, joining the 1.0 and 1.3 turbo petrol engines already on sale, and it brings something the Duster has missed since the diesel went away: big mileage. With 160hp from a 1.8 litre petrol and two electric motors, it will also be the most powerful strong hybrid in the midsize SUV class. Here is what we know, what is still unconfirmed, and how it stacks up against the Maruti and Toyota hybrids.
When is the Renault Duster Hybrid launching in India?
Renault has confirmed that the Duster Hybrid will launch on 17 October 2026, just after Navratri begins and ahead of Diwali. Autocar India, DriveSpark and Carlelo all reported the date in the last week of September.
There is a twist. Renault closed hybrid bookings months ago because the 2026 production allocation was already sold out. Rushlane reported that about 39 percent of Duster bookings in metro cities were for the hybrid. Bookings are expected to reopen around Diwali, mainly for 2027 deliveries, but the company has not officially confirmed the timeline.

The E-Tech 160 is a full or strong hybrid, so it can drive on electric power alone at low speeds. It combines a 1.8 litre naturally aspirated four cylinder petrol with a 20hp starter generator and a 49hp traction motor, fed by a 1.4kWh battery that charges itself through the engine and regenerative braking. You never plug it in.
The gearbox is the big difference from rivals. Instead of Toyota's e-CVT, Renault uses a multi-mode automatic with fixed gear ratios, a dedicated hybrid transmission that some listings describe as 8-speed. It shifts like a regular automatic, which should avoid the rubber band feel some drivers dislike in e-CVT hybrids. Renault says the Duster can run in EV mode for about 80 percent of city driving.
What will the Duster Hybrid cost?
The Duster turbo petrol range currently costs Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.69 lakh (ex-showroom), across Authentic, Evolution, Techno, Techno+ and Iconic trims. The hybrid price is expected, not officially confirmed.
Carlelo reports a premium of about Rs 2 lakh over comparable turbo petrol variants. If that holds and the hybrid comes in upper trims, it would sit roughly between Rs 16.5 lakh and Rs 21 lakh, which is our estimate and not an official figure. Earlier reports had suggested an even higher Rs 19 to 25 lakh band, so wait for 17 October before you set a budget.
What mileage can you expect from the Duster Hybrid?
Renault has not announced a certified figure. Carlelo has reported an expected 22 to 25 kmpl, and an earlier report mentioned a 24 to 26 kmpl target with close to 1,000km on a tank. Both are expected, not officially confirmed. For context, the turbo petrol Duster claims 17.75 to 19.41 kmpl, while the Toyota based hybrids claim close to 28 kmpl.
Real-world numbers matter more than claims. In our guide to the best strong hybrid cars of 2026, we found strong hybrids typically return 22 to 25 kmpl in daily use, and city traffic is where they shine. Long highway runs narrow the gap, so keep your tyres at the right pressure; a jump starter with a built in tyre inflator makes that a two minute job in your own parking.
What features does the Duster Hybrid get?
Expect the hybrid to borrow the kit of the upper Duster trims. Reports list:
- 10.1 inch touchscreen with Google integration and a 10.25 inch digital driver display
- Level 2 ADAS with up to 17 functions, including adaptive cruise control
- Panoramic sunroof, 360 degree camera and powered, ventilated front seats
- 5-star Bharat NCAP rating for the Duster, 212mm ground clearance and 18 inch alloys
- HYBRID badging on the tailgate
The screen already supports phone mirroring, but owners of older cars with wired CarPlay can get a similar big-screen experience with the K713C wireless CarPlay video box.
How does the Duster Hybrid compare with Grand Vitara, Hyryder and Victoris?
Until now, the only strong hybrid midsize SUVs in India were Maruti and Toyota models sharing the same 1.5 litre Toyota system. The Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos have no hybrid yet, so their 1.5 petrol automatics are the closest alternatives for buyers who want a self-shifting SUV.
| SUV | Price (ex-showroom) | Power | Claimed mileage | Gearbox |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Renault Duster Hybrid | Rs 16.5 to 21 lakh (expected, not officially confirmed) | 160hp, 172Nm | 22 to 25 kmpl (expected, not officially confirmed) | Multi-mode automatic, fixed ratios |
| Maruti Victoris hybrid | Rs 16.43 to 19.99 lakh | 116PS combined | 28.65 kmpl | e-CVT |
| Maruti Grand Vitara hybrid | Rs 16.68 to 19.77 lakh | About 115hp combined | 27.97 kmpl | e-CVT |
| Toyota Hyryder hybrid | Rs 17.18 to 20.19 lakh | About 114hp combined | 27.97 kmpl | e-CVT |
| Hyundai Creta 1.5 petrol | Range Rs 10.91 to 20.46 lakh | 115hp, 144Nm | 17.7 kmpl (IVT) | 6-speed MT or IVT |
| Kia Seltos 1.5 petrol | Range Rs 11.00 to 22.02 lakh | 115hp, 144Nm | 12.26 kmpl (Autocar real-world test) | 6-speed MT or IVT |
On paper, the Duster wins on power by a wide margin, about 45hp more than the Maruti and Toyota trio. The Maruti and Toyota hybrids will almost certainly keep the mileage crown, since they are proven, lighter on fuel and backed by huge service networks. The Duster's case rests on performance, a conventional feeling gearbox and its rugged styling.

Waiting list or not, a few basics help any midsize SUV. A 5-in-1 vacuum and tyre inflator keeps the cabin clean on family trips, a 240W LED headlight upgrade makes night highway runs safer in older cars, and a 1200 GSM microfibre towel dries a fresh wash without swirl marks.
