Mahindra unveiled its Global Pik Up on August 14, 2026, and confirmed the name it will wear in India: Scorpio Lifestyler. It goes on sale by April 2027, with prices starting below Rs 19.79 lakh ex-showroom. Abroad, the same truck will simply be called the Mahindra Lifestyler.
This is the production answer to the concept Mahindra showed in Cape Town back in August 2023, and it is a genuinely new category bet for India rather than another SUV variant.
What is the Mahindra Scorpio Lifestyler?
It is a midsize lifestyle pickup, designed at the Mahindra India Design Studio in Mumbai and developed at Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai. It sits on the company's next-generation body-on-frame architecture, and Mahindra has been explicit that it was engineered as a global product from the start rather than an India model adapted for export.
Mahindra's phrasing for the brief is 'payload and playload', which is marketing shorthand for the thing that separates a lifestyle pickup from a workhorse: it should haul a load on Monday and take a family somewhere on Saturday without feeling like a punishment.

Three editions: Valley, Reef and Trail
Rather than a spec ladder, Mahindra unveiled three character expressions. Per Pratap Bose, Chief Design and Creative Officer, each is built around a different way of using the truck.
| Edition | Finish | Positioning |
|---|---|---|
| Valley | Artemis Grey | Work and leisure blend, the refined, practical one |
| Reef | Aquareef | Outdoors and exploration, freedom and discovery |
| Trail | Sahara Beige | Go-anywhere adventure, the most rugged of the three |
Where it slots on price
Sub-Rs 19.79 lakh ex-showroom puts the Scorpio Lifestyler above the Scorpio N SUV, which currently runs from about Rs 13.69 lakh to Rs 25.49 lakh, and squarely into a segment India has never really had. Today a buyer wanting a double-cab pickup that is pleasant to live with has thin pickings, and most existing options lean commercial.

Why Mahindra is doing this now
The global ambition is the honest answer. Mahindra is targeting the midsize lifestyle pickup segment across Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, the wider African market, the Middle East and Latin America. Those are large, established pickup markets where a credible, well-priced entrant can move real volume, and where Mahindra already has pickup history.
Dr Velusamy R, President of Mahindra's Automotive Business, framed the engineering goal as capability, durability, safety and refinement to global standards. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of the Automotive Division, was candid that India needs work on the commercial side, saying the company is investing in awareness, network and ownership experience for the category.
That last point is the interesting one. The product is only half the problem. Selling a lifestyle pickup in India means convincing buyers that a pickup is not automatically a commercial vehicle, and building service and finance around private buyers.
What to watch between now and April 2027
- Powertrain. The 2.2 litre mHawk diesel is the obvious candidate given the platform, but Mahindra has not confirmed it.
- Registration and taxation. How the Lifestyler is classified will shape running costs and city access rules for private buyers.
- Payload versus comfort. Lifestyle pickups usually soften the rear leaf setup, which trades outright payload for ride quality.
- Positioning against the Scorpio N. With a launch a full year away, Mahindra has room to move the price.
Key takeaways
- Mahindra unveiled the Global Pik Up on 14 August 2026; India name is Scorpio Lifestyler.
- India launch is confirmed by April 2027, starting below Rs 19.79 lakh ex-showroom.
- Three editions were shown: Valley, Reef and Trail.
- Internationally it will be sold as the Mahindra Lifestyler across ANZ, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
- Powertrain, payload and feature details are not yet officially confirmed.
Conclusion: the Autofy verdict
The Scorpio Lifestyler is the most interesting thing Mahindra showed this Independence Day week, precisely because it is not another SUV. A sub-Rs 20 lakh starting price for a globally engineered double-cab is aggressive, and if the interior lands anywhere near Thar Roxx or Scorpio N standards, it will find buyers who were never going to look at a pickup before.
The honest caveat is that April 2027 is a long way off and Mahindra has published a name, a price floor and three paint schemes, not a spec sheet. We would hold judgement on the truck until the engine, payload and safety numbers are on the table.
If you already run a Scorpio N or an XUV700 and are watching this space, the accessories that matter for a load-bed vehicle are unglamorous but constant: a reliable tyre inflator because load changes pressure requirements, a strong cordless vacuum for the grit an open bed drags into the cabin, and a wax-infused duster for the dust that settles between washes. A cordless air duster is also handy for blowing out vents and bed corners.
