Here is what is now officially confirmed, what is still only reported, and whether you should wait for it or buy a rival today.

We covered the early details in our September story, Hyundai Bayon India: everything we know. This post focuses only on what is new and confirmed at the 12 October India-spec debut.

When is the Hyundai Bayon launching in India?

Hyundai Motor India confirmed in its 12 October press release that the Bayon will launch on 26 October 2026. Prices and the variant list will be revealed that day. Deliveries are expected to begin during the festive season, and Hyundai says detailed delivery timelines will be shared at launch.

What is new at the India-spec debut?

Until now most details were based on spy shots and the Brazil-market i20. The 12 October reveal confirms the following:

  • Engine and gearboxes: 1.5 litre MPi four-cylinder petrol with 115 PS (84.4 kW) and 144 Nm, offered with a 6-speed manual or IVT automatic. This is the same naturally aspirated engine used in the Creta.
  • Screens: dual 12.3 inch curved panoramic displays for infotainment and the instrument cluster.
  • Generative AI voice assistant: Hyundai India's first, using Perplexity for answers and SoundHound AI for voice. It works in English only.
  • Offline voice commands: 500+ embedded commands that work without internet in English, Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil, Bengali and Telugu.
  • Connected tech: NVIDIA-accelerated Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), Bluelink with 70+ features, and over-the-air updates for up to 19 vehicle controllers.
  • Platform: Global K Enhanced Platform, which Hyundai says is engineered for 5-star Bharat NCAP standards. This is an engineering target, not a crash test result.

Hyundai calls the Bayon an "Intelligent Utility Vehicle". It sits between the Venue and the Creta in the line-up.

Design: what you see

Up front there are slim H-shaped LED DRLs above the main headlamps, linked by a black strip, with a broad grille carrying silver inserts. Squared wheel arches with chunky black cladding, geometric alloys and bridge-type roof rails give it an upright SUV stance. At the back there is spaced-out BAYON lettering on a black tailgate panel, a roof spoiler, rear wiper and parking sensors.

A boxy SUV with lots of cladding and roof rails collects dust fast on Indian roads. If you are planning to buy, a compact wet and dry car vacuum keeps the cabin and floor mats clean from day one.

Cabin and tech

The dual-tone grey and black cabin has a horizontal dash with two 12.3 inch screens in one curved panel. Hyundai has kept physical shortcut buttons and rotary knobs, which is good news for anyone who dislikes touch-only climate controls. A four-dot steering wheel and a vertical centre stack with AC vents complete the layout.

The Bayon gets wireless phone projection from the factory, as reported by CarDekho. Own an older car with wired CarPlay instead? A 4GB RAM CarPlay video box adds wireless connectivity and apps to your current screen while you wait.

What will the Hyundai Bayon cost?

The company has not officially confirmed this information. Prices come on 26 October. Current estimates vary by publication:

  • CarWale: Rs 9.79 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh (expected, not officially confirmed)
  • CarDekho: Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17.5 lakh (expected, not officially confirmed)
  • Motoroids: Rs 9.5 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (expected, not officially confirmed)

Our read: since the Bayon must sit below the Creta (Rs 10.91 lakh ex-showroom onwards) and above the Venue (Rs 8 lakh onwards), a starting price close to Rs 10 lakh looks logical, but treat every number above as an estimate until launch day.

Hyundai Bayon vs rivals: starting prices

The Bayon will mainly fight top variants of sub-4 metre SUVs and the base versions of midsize SUVs. Here is where its rivals start today.

Where does the Bayon fit between the Venue and Creta?

Think of it as a bigger, more tech-heavy alternative to a top Venue, without paying full Creta money. At around 4.2 metres (reported) it is longer than the 3,995 mm Venue but shorter than the 4,330 mm Creta. It borrows the Creta's 1.5 litre petrol, so performance should feel similar to a base Creta, while the screens, AI assistant and connected tech put it ahead of many rivals on paper.

The catch: no diesel, no turbo petrol and no CNG have been announced. Buyers who want a factory CNG option still have to look at the Brezza or Nexon.

✓ What works

  • Easy two-pedal IVT automatic option
  • Dual 12.3 inch screens and AI voice assistant

  • Prices not confirmed yet
  • No CNG, diesel or turbo announced
  • 5-star Bharat NCAP is a target, not a result
  • Full dimensions and boot space still unpublished

Autofy verdict: wait for the Bayon or buy a rival?

★ Autofy verdict
If you want a petrol automatic with big screens and a roomier cabin than a sub-4 metre SUV, wait 13 days for the 26 October prices. The Rs 11,000 booking is a small token, but ask your dealer for the cancellation and refund terms in writing. If you need CNG, a diesel, or a car before Diwali at a sharp discount, a Brezza, Nexon or Sonet makes more sense right now. And if the Bayon's top variant lands close to a mid Creta, the Creta's wider engine choice may be the better buy.
