Car sales October 2026: the big picture
Maruti Suzuki dispatched 2,76,120 vehicles in October 2026, up 25% from 2,20,894 a year ago and 17% above September's 2,36,013. That is the total, which includes exports, light commercial vehicles and supplies to other OEMs. Its domestic passenger vehicle (PV) number is 2,12,384, up 20.5% YoY.
Diwali falls on 8 November this year, with Dhanteras on 6 November. Dealers stocked up in October ahead of both, so these are wholesale (factory to dealer) numbers, not retail registrations. Treat them as a read on festive confidence, not on what customers took home.

Maruti Suzuki leads by a wide margin, with Tata Motors and Mahindra almost level for second place. Tata's 73,894 edges Mahindra's 73,338, though Mahindra counts SUVs only and Tata includes its EVs. Outlets differ on a few small-brand and September figures, so we have stuck to company-reported numbers wherever we could.
Who gained, who lagged
- Maruti Suzuki: SUVs 97,787 (+26%), passenger cars 1,00,877 (+18%), exports 49,872 (+59%).
- Hyundai: 62,799 domestic (+16.7%), with Venue a record at 13,017.
- Kia: 33,462, up from 32,017 in September.
- Mahindra: its highest-ever monthly domestic SUV number, but only +2.4% YoY because October 2025 was already a record.
- Toyota: 29,521 domestic, down 26.7% YoY against a very strong October 2025.
- Honda has not published a like-for-like figure, so we do not call a trend. Brands not yet reported are left out rather than guessed.
EV and CNG highlights
Tata Motors reported 16,244 EVs (domestic and international), up 75% from 9,286. JSW MG sold 5,877 EVs out of its 7,014 total, and Kia called out a record EV month, up 31% MoM. On CNG, Mahindra's first factory CNG SUV, the XUV 3XO ZNG, saw strong traction, and Kia says the Carens Clavis CNG is roughly 10% of its sales.
We have no verified industry-wide PV total. Outlets' tallies differ and do not reconcile, so we are not quoting one until SIAM publishes.
If you just took delivery of a new car
Festive deliveries are landing now, and the first week with a new car is when small habits stick. A few low-cost things help:
- Keep the cabin showroom-fresh: the Storm 3 cordless car vacuum is handy for crumbs, and the DUSTO wet and dry vacuum handles spills.
- Wipe dust off gently with a 1200 GSM microfiber towel rather than a cotton rag.
- Check tyre pressure after the first long drive. A Sonic auto-cut digital tyre inflator stops at your set PSI.
- Carry a VoltX jump starter and tyre inflator for dead batteries and slow punctures.
- If your car still has halogen headlights, a Falcon H4/H19 LED headlight makes night drives easier, but check fitment first.
