ToneTag recently announced and unveiled an incredible payment system called ‘Pay-by-Car’! It was showcased on an MG Hector at the Global Fintech Fest. With its simple and safe method of conducting transactions without the use of conventional wallets or cell phones, this cutting-edge technology is poised to revolutionize payments in internet-enabled automobiles.
ToneTag has opened the path for voice-enabled payments through a car’s infotainment system in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). This agreement intends to make payments simpler and users more convenient, especially when doing things like refilling at petrol stations owned by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL).
Here’s a deeper look at how ‘Pay-by-Car’ works:
Users of vehicles having Pay-by-Car functionality may easily choose a nearby BPCL fuel station using the infotainment system. The selection of the preferred petrol station is simplified by this simple function.
The technology prompts the driver to enter the precise amount they desire to pay for the petrol after the fuel station has been chosen. Users are guaranteed to have complete control over their transactions thanks to this tailored strategy.
The selected fueling station receives a notice stating the request for a digital fuel refill when the payment amount has been confirmed. A seamless and effective procedure is ensured by the automobile and station’s real-time connection.
Using the UPI connected to the vehicle’s FASTag, the Pay-by-Car system effortlessly deducts the required amount. Users have the option of adding an additional degree of protection to the transaction by either entering a password on the infotainment screen of the car or using voice commands.
The system has a feature for refunds in the case that a user pays for fuel but has trouble getting to the gas station. The refund process is initiated within 48 hours.

The ‘Pay-by-Car’ payment system makes use of the Opera Network for Digital Transmission (ONDC), a platform that enables contactless transactions, and it is based on high-wave frequency transmission. This newly developed method increases total payment convenience while still guaranteeing security.
The Pay-by-Car system has uses beyond only paying for fuel. Users may use this cutting-edge mode of payment to pay for a variety of goods and services, including groceries, meals, and even transactions with other drivers at outlets. It is a useful contribution to the world of digital payments because of its adaptability.
The partnership between ToneTag and NPCI has paved the way for a new age of voice-enabled payments in internet-connected automobiles. The need for actual wallets or cellphones during necessary tasks like refueling is expected to be replaced by this technology, which will make transactions easier to complete and more accessible.
Moreover, the concept automobile modeled on the MG Hector that was on show at the Global Fintech Fest is only the beginning. ‘Pay-by-Car’ is a potential advancement in the field of digital payments, and ToneTag is actively looking at ways to implement such a feature in other auto manufacturers, such as Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Kia, and Mahindra.
