The Micra EV will have similar foundations to the future Renault 5 EV and the Alpine model.

Nissan has unveiled the 20-23, a brand-new city electric vehicle concept. To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Nissan’s European design center in Paddington, London, this is effectively a glimpse of the following-generation Micra.

  1. By 2026, the Micra EV will be in production.
  2. It will be supported by the CMF-BEV platform from Nissan.
  3. Will incorporate design elements from previous Micra versions.

The 20-23 concept, according to the automaker, honors both Nissan’s involvement in the Formula E racing series and its “heritage of bold hatchbacks.”

A city-based hatchback with race-spec

Makoto Uchida, the company’s president and CEO, introduced the concept in front of Nissan Design Europe’s (NDE) offices. The location in the heart of London was selected to emphasize the 20-23’s positioning as a “sporty urban” idea. The NDE team was given free rein to create a vehicle with “no restrictions,” and the end result is a design that is obviously race-inspired. It has massive front and back diffusers, a rear wing designed for touring cars, oversized wheel arches, and ultra-low-profile racing tires.

The roof scoop, racing numbers, Lamborghini-style scissor doors, and air-channeling louvers are a few further highly imaginative design elements that, according to the company, maintain “Nissan’s tradition of bringing eye-catching playfulness to the world of hatchbacks and city cars.”

Renault 5-inspired design

Nissan’s electric Micra successor, scheduled to begin production in 2026, can be seen best via the 20-23’s racy exterior. It would be constructed on the same CMF-BEV platform that Alliance partner Renault uses for its own Renault 5 and Alpine A290 sporty hatchbacks.

The black ‘floating’ roof and two-piece circular LED light clusters are two signals present in the side profile picture that are carried over to this idea. Even though the 20-23 concept omitted the actual car’s rear doors, the two vehicles have a similar profile and dimensions.

The concept’s interior is far less likely to be used in the final product because it was created as a “futuristic interpretation of a racing car’s bare functionality.”

To get to their deep bucket seats, the driver and passenger must climb over foam-covered brace bars. In place of a steering wheel, the driver holds a yoke-style device with a variety of switches and buttons. Paddles are located behind the yoke to control the performance of the electric motors and regenerative brakes.

Production information for the Next-gen Micra

The all-electric Micra will be made alongside the Renault 5 at the French automaker’s ElectriCity production facility in northern France and will have the same power and range numbers as its sibling (134hp front-mounted engine and 400km range).

Nissan’s presence in India

Nissan used to sell the Micra in India until a few years ago, but the company now only offers the Magnite SUV, which will soon add an AMT gearbox to its lineup of available powertrains.

According to a Mozilla investigation, major automakers including Nissan gather and exchange personal information. In the analysis, automotive brands from the US, Germany, Japan, France, and South Korea were discovered to have privacy and security issues.

The Mozilla Foundation report claims that 25 major car manufacturers, including Nissan, are gathering and exchanging sensitive personal data, such as sexual activity and health information. The study uncovered privacy and security issues across car brands from the U.S., Germany, Japan, France, and South Korea.

In their evaluation, Mozilla tested 25 major car manufacturers and found that none of them met privacy standards. The organization concluded that cars have the lowest level of privacy among all the product categories they assessed.

During their assessment, researchers thoroughly examined the privacy and security issues in car brands from the United States, Germany, Japan, France, and South Korea. They dedicated approximately 600 hours to reviewing privacy policies, downloading apps, and communicating with the brands, following their ‘Privacy Not Included (PNI) buyer’s guide.’

Jen Caltrider, PNI Program Director at Mozilla, expressed concerns about the privacy issues in modern cars, stating that they collect significant amounts of personal information. The report highlights Nissan as the most problematic, with their privacy policy acknowledging the collection of sensitive data, such as details regarding sexual activity, health diagnoses, and genetic information.

According to the Mozilla blog post, car manufacturers like Nissan claim that they can share and sell consumers’ personal information, including preferences, characteristics, psychological trends, and more, to data brokers, law enforcement, and other third parties.

The Mozilla report highlights that Renault has fewer privacy issues compared to other car manufacturers. Additionally, Volkswagen is mentioned for collecting demographic data (age and gender) and driving behavior’s data (seatbelt usage and braking patterns) for targeted marketing purposes.
